Advantages of Hot Rodding: The Style

This is our first installment of the Advantages of Hot Rodding, and we want to kick it off by discussing style. It may not seem like the manliest topic, but let's face it - hot rodders get to wear some of the coolest stuff out there. It's even stuff other folks can't pull off sometimes.

For example, wallets on a chain. As a kid we all wanted one of these, but you can't wear them to school because they are considered weapons. Once you're grown up, this is the wallet of choice with a motorcycle. That's why I say hot rodders can get away with some of the coolest looks there are out there.

For more wallets like this one, check out Roland Sands website here.

Another great thing that fits right in with the hot rodding scene is the greaser and "high and tight" haircuts that have made a comeback. Greasers loved a black, shiny pomp (like Elvis' at the top), while others returning from World War II seemed to prefer the high and tight haircuts. Whether you're rocking a fade or a flat top, this is another one of those things that comes more naturally to hot rodders, and it may be because it's easier to keep from flying around when riding in a roadster or on a bobber.

There's nothing quite like going to a real old school barbershop for a cut and shave. Places like the Belmont Barbershop are killing it nowadays.

Some other basics of the hot rodding world are dark Levi's, rolled up sleeves to hold your cigarettes, white t-shirts, black sunglasses, and Chuck Taylor's or some boots for riding. The most important part is the jacket so others know what club you're in. For hot rodders and anyone else, these are easy, sharp, timeless looks. If you're having a hard time imaging this look, just check these guys out or look up James Dean or Joe Camel.

If you don't have a club, but you still want a jacket, Deus Ex Machina is selling them when they're not making sweet cafe racers. Check them out here.

Saving the best for last... Hot rodders have been rocking the traditional tattoos for a while now. Like the haircuts, these have also made a comeback. One great example is Indian Larry. One of the greatest motorcycle builders to ever live, this guy had quite the life, left a great legacy, and had some cool tattoos like the one on his neck. RIP - 4/28/49 to 8/30/04.

For more information about Indian Larry and his neck tat here.

So if you're into hot rodding, take advantage of these perks of the lifestyle. I hope you learned something about style and Indian Larry. If you have other hot rod styling cues I forgot, make sure to let me know on Triple W's social media or our contact page.
